Fibromyalgia Recovery Foundation

How One Woman’s Dramatic Recovery Led to the Fibromyalgia Recovery Foundation

Auto accident, surgeries . . . followed by years of increasing pain and fatigue resulting in forced retirement. Then years spent in virtual seclusion. Finally, a surprising diagnosis and recovery---proving that there is life after fibromyalgia!

"You can get your life back!"

Lorna Searle tells a local television audience that she is now free from the pain and fatigue of fibromyalgia.   KRDO-TV newsman Zack Thaxton (center) gets the encouraging story in office of Dr. George Juetersonke, D.O., a Director of  the Fibromyalgia Assistance Foundation.

"After years of chronic pain and chronic fatigue, Dr. St. Amand’s simple solution made me well. My life had been reduced to hurting, taking pills and trying to sleep. Nothing worked. Then the inexpensive Guaifenesin Protocol got rid of the pain and the fatigue.  After more than 10 years of being sidelined, I can ride a bike again, play golf, swim, jog, even ride a horse. No more wheel chairs when I go through airports!"
Following nine months of faithfully following Dr. Paul St. Amand’s guaifenesin program, Mrs. Searle was pain free and rapidly getting her energy back. But she soon discovered that many thousands of men and women are still unaware of this effective and affordable treatment. An over the counter, non-invasive, relatively inexpensive pill called guaifenesin is the key. It can take from a few months to a year or more---but it works
Thrilled to “have her life back,” to be able to have a social life again, to play with her grand children, enjoy travel and recreation, she has accepted the challenge of sharing the welcome news with others. “Yes,” she declares, “you can regain the life you thought had been taken from you forever!”
In 2003, with her “new lease on life,” Lorna began to host a support group to help others conquer fibromyalgia. Those who were helped told others. Soon the phone calls and emails from the local community and across the country confirmed a general lack of information and encouragement available to those battling this disastrous disease.  In most cases, their family doctors and even various specialists had lacked an answer. The hunger for news of something that could get these people “out from under” fibromyalgia was overwhelming!
Lorna’s heart went out to these hurting individuals. Some were just youngsters---struggling in school, others in middle age were courageously battling pain and fatigue while working every day . . . some enduring their sunset years in pain and growing despair.
What could be done to help them succeed as she had? With a few friends from her support group who had by then vanquished the pain and fatigue—and with the invaluable support of Dr. Paul St. Amand and Dr. George Juetersonke---she created the Fibromyalgia Recovery Foundation
Dedicated to helping others---through information, encouragement and mentoring---the Foundation is a nonprofit organization supported entirely through contributions. Informational literature and Dr. St. Amand’s DVDs are provided Free. (Tax deductible contributions to the Foundation, to help cover the costs, are welcome but strictly voluntary.)
While guaifenesin is available over the counter, the treatment protocol should be undertaken under the care of a knowledgeable doctor who can direct and monitor the dosage and track your progress. Daily dosage varies with each individual and certain drugs and personal care products containing salicylates will block the effectiveness of guaifenesin. (Products made from plants and flowers must be avoided.) The treatment plan is simple---but it is neither easy nor quick. That is why it is very helpful to have both a doctor and some sort of support system to help you stay with the protocol and succeed.

It is important to note that there are two types of guaifenesin available for purchase. As described by Dr. St. Amand,
"Fast acting (FA) guaifenesin provides too short duration of effect to be used exclusive of longer-acting medication. Long-acting guaifenesin MAY face some destruction in the intestinal tract before being totally absorbed. Therefore, once we get beyond 1200 or 1800 mg of longer-acting drug, we add short acting not more longer acting. The combination is highly effective with quick impact added to around-the-clock protection."

Fast acting (FA) guaifenesin, should ONLY be used in conjunction with long acting (LA), also known as extended release guaifenesin.  Fast acting guaifenesin should, according to Dr. St. Amand, ONLY be added to guaifenesin protocol, when the daily intake of LA, long acting, guaifenesin, is at least 1200-1800 milligrams.

Only long acting/extended release guaifenesin will stay in your bloodstream long enough to enable the effects of guaifenesin.

Foundation staff and volunteers are available to offer helpful information and encouragement . . . over the months that it takes to recover from the debilitating symptoms of fibromyalgia.  “The good news,” according to Lorna, “is that everyone I know of who has faithfully followed the protocol has gotten well!”
All of our staff members and volunteers have successfully followed the guaifenesin treatment protocol themselves. They know what it’s like to have fibromyalgia. Each one has gone through the hopelessness, self-doubting, the well intended but usually useless advice of friends, family and uninformed physicians. They have heard the hurtful suggestion that perhaps “it’s all in your head.” And they are available to offer you the benefit of their firsthand experience as well as information compiled by the most knowledgeable fibromyalgia doctors in the country. On the practical side, they can help you find salicylate-free products (like shampoo, toothpaste and soaps) that won’t neutralize the guaifenesin and delay your recovery
Their time is free. The literature and DVDs are free. If you can’t find or afford the guaifenesin, we may be able to provide an initial supply of that, as well. Free.
If you research the many companies and organizations that promise a “cure” for fibromyalgia, you will notice that most of them have some sort of products to sell. The Fibromyalgia Recovery Foundation was created to assist hurting people—not to sell them something. If you or someone you know is suffering from the classic symptoms of fibromyalgia (which can include depression, memory loss or “fibro fog,” as well as chronic pain and fatigue) we can assist you in locating a knowledgeable physician who will be able to diagnose fibromyalgia and guide your implementation of the guaifenesin therapy.  Visit our website at
